# Domain mapping
Domain mapping allows you to map a subdomain of your choice to our domain, so your website can be accessed via your custom subdomain. By mapping your subdomain to our domain, you can have a more personalized URL for your website. Below you will find the 4 easy steps to map your subdomain to our domain.

# Step 1: Enter your subdomain
To get started with domain mapping, go to Domain Mapping in the navigation bar. You will find it under General Settings. You will find two input fields on the domain mapping page, Base and Preference Center. The Base url will be used for all the pages you create using the novti Page Builder. The Preference Center url will be the subdomain where your Preference Centers reside.

Enter your desired subdomain name in the provided input field. Once you have entered the subdomain name and are ready to start the mapping process, click on the next button. You will be automatically redirected to the domain mapping status page.
Our system will create a DNS Authorization Record for you. The DNS Authorization Record is a special record that must be added to your DNS provider. It contains a CNAME, DNS Record and DNS Value that enables your website to appear under your subdomain.
WARNING
You can only submit subdomains (e.g. forms.novti.io). Root domains (e.g. novti.io) will not be accepted. If you want to map a root domain contact the Novti team.
# Step 2: Insert DNS Authorization Record
After we create the DNS Authorization Record, there will be a table presented to you with TYPE, NAME and Content values. You need to adjust these settings in your DNS provider.

To insert the DNS Authorization Record, simply copy and paste the provided TYPE, NAME and Content values into your DNS provider. The DNS Authorization handles the rest and sets up the necessary security measures.
# Step 3: Create TLS Certificate
Once you have inserted the DNS Authorization Record into your DNS provider, click on the Create Certificate button on the domain mapping status page. We will create a TLS certificate for you once the action has been triggered. This certificate will be used to secure the connection between your website and your visitors.
A TLS certificate is a digital certificate that verifies the ownership of a website and encrypts the data sent between the website and its visitors. This ensures that any sensitive information is kept secure.
After the TLS certificate is created, it needs to be authorized. We will validate this based on your DNS settings. The verification process may take up to an hour, but most of the time it will be much faster. We handle the certificate creation and authorization actions. No further action is required.
# Step 4: Verify Subdomain
Once the certificate is authorized, you will get a standard CNAME DNS record from your inserted domain to our domain. A new table will be shown on the domain mapping status page with the TYPE, NAME, CONTENT, and Verified columns. The Verified column will show a checkmark once your subdomain is successfully mapped to our domain.

To verify your subdomain, you need to insert the values shown in the table into your DNS provider. Once you have done this, click on the Verify Subdomain button on the domain mapping status page. We will validate if your subdomain points to our IP address. Once we confirm that the record exists and matches the record we created for you, your subdomain will be successfully mapped to our domain.

# Rollback action
On the domain mapping status page, at the bottom of the page, you will find a Rollback Actions button. You can rollback all the previous actions. Everything will be deleted in the following order:
- Your certificate will be deleted
- The DNS authorization will be deleted
- Your provided subdomains will be deleted from the novti application.
TIP
Use the rollback Actions button to start fresh. For example after mistakes were made.
